Welcome

My music is my way of sharing my painful memories of the millions of Jewish people who were methodically murdered in WWII

I have composed the Songs of the Wasteland in memory of my family and the millions of Jewish people who were methodically murdered in Europe during World War II, only because they were Jewish.

My music is my way of sharing my painful memories with the world. I hope that by sharing these memories with you, together we will find a way to heal the wounds of yesterday and bring hope for a better tomorrow.

Songs of the Wasteland

“Songs of the Wasteland” echoes fragments of Jewish tradition and culture in Europe before the Holocaust and laments the dramatic decline in the use of Yiddish as a language of the people.

Together, the music and the lyrics present a vision of great sadness. They tell the story of Jews' great suffering, where tyranny, brutality and murder reigned during World War II.

The Music

I have composed the Songs of the Wasteland in memory of my family and the millions of Jewish people who were methodically murdered in Europe during World War II, only because they were Jewish.

The tragedy of the Holocaust has affected many people around the world in a very sorrowful way.

My music is my way of sharing my painful memories with the world. I hope that by sharing these memories with you, together we will find a way to heal the wounds of yesterday and bring hope for a better tomorrow.

Part 1: From Tragedy to Triumph

A few Jewish people who survived the destruction did not live long enough to tell their story and many of those who lived longer could not bring themselves to talk about their suffering.

Part 2: Survival

I am one of the survivors. I choose to live and tell.
I no longer feel the victim, but the survivor who is blessed.

Part 3: Renia's Journey of Survival

Persecution

At daybreak December 4th, Ivan drove my older sister Henia and me to Hodynia train station. From there, my sister and I traveled under false identities to Lwow central station. We were 14 and 12 years old when we began this journey.

Liberation

I could hardly believe that Jews had survived and were living in a community as Jews - singing, dancing, lighting candles, observing the Sabbath. It was overwhelming, so many unshed tears, all the pain of the years, I cried for days, sitting on the lower bed of a bunk bed.

A New Life

In my triumph over death, as a “non-Jew” I found meaning and fulfillment in my Jewish heritage and in life itself - witnessing the goodness and the grotesqueness in human behaviour.
